Senecio salignus is a member of the Aster Family, the uniqueness of the Aster or Sunflower family is that what first seems to be a single large flower is actually a composite of many smaller flowers. 
 
Quick Notes:
 
Height:  Up to about 12 to 48 inches. Spreading out to about 38 inches wide.
 
Flowers:  Yellow rays, yellow - orange disks, up to 1 1/4 inch wide.
 
Flowering Time:  March - May.
 
Leaves:  Leaves pinnately, lobed, toothed, dark green, to 3" long. Side lobes are shorter, with the leaf up to 8 inches long.  upper leaves smaller and clasping them.
 
Found:   Native of the southwestern Great Plains of North America. the southwest, and northern Mexico.

Elevation:  1,800 - 6,500 Feet.
 
Habitat:  Alkaline, well-drained/light soils.  Dry slopes and washes in the desert environs, where it occupies open, sandy washes bajadas, and roadsides. Up to and including oak woodland areas.
 
Miscellaneous:  Flowering Photos Taken April 27, 2003.  Near Lake Pleasant, Arizona. We have seen this plant on the San Francisco Peaks, near Flagstaff, Arizona.
