Cosmos bipinnatus is a tender annual that has fine feathery foliage, with its pinnate leaves growing to about 10 inches in length. Southwestern Cosmos will grow from about 1 - 7 foot tall depending upon the variety and growing conditions. Mexican aster has beautiful solitary red, white, pink or purple flowers that are about 2 - 3 inches in diameter. Cosmos is a good nectar plant for attracting butterflies into the garden.
