Agave geminiflora is a single, short-stemmed plant that forms dense, symmetrical rosettes of narrow, dark green leaves. The leaves have a slight red - brown tip to them. The long, thin leaves measure about 2 feet long and 3/8 inch across. They are toothless along the margin, however, they can have very fine, white marginal fibers. The flower stalk is a narrow spike 15 - 18 feet tall that developes about ten years after the plant starts growing. The name geminiflora means that there are two flowers at each bract along the spike. The flowers are yellow but greenish near the base, they are flushed with red or purple above. As with all Agave species these plants only bloom once then die, therefore, it would need to be replaced.

Agave geminiflora is found in a small area of oak-woodland in the state of Nayarit, Mexico between about 3,300 - 4,600 feet in elevation. This is located a few hundred miles south of Tucson.

They have a moderately fast growth rate. Agave geminiflora seems to be adaptable to either full sun, or partial shade. Twin Flower Agave plants are very low maintenance, however, they should be treated for the Agave Snout Weevil.

The plants can be grown in full sun, or placed under the protection and shade of Acacia greggii, Acacia minuta, Olneya tesota, Pithecellobium species, or Prosopis species. They can be planted on the north side of a house where they will receive both winter shade and summer sun. Since, this location is always one of the most difficult places to find plants for, Agave geminiflora will fill that niche. It is an ideal xeriscape plant.

While it is frost sensitive, Twin Flower Agave plants can be grown without protection from frost in Phoenix, and Yuma. Slight protection is needed in Tucson. If your plants are located near the desert, protect the plants from the rabbits and javelina. These plants will die after flowering, which is usually after they are ten years old.

Can take full sun in Phoenix or Tucson.
