Woods Canyon Lake, Arizona is located in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest and it is near the Tonto and Coconino National Forests.

Woods Canyon Lake is a great lake to visit, especially if you want to visit a lake with easy access and lots of amenities.

Talk about easy access!!!! It is easilly within an two hours of Phoenix. And within minutes of payson. And it is paved, all of the way!!!

Talk about amenities!!!! Well, there are picnic areas with restrooms and a boat ramp. There is also a concessionaire who rents boats, sells fishing licenses, bait, and tackle, and operates a well-stocked country store. There is also an RV dump station about a mile from the lake.

There are four fee-use campgrounds near the lake. The area is also clean and well cared for.

Spillway Campground has 26 sites, each accommodating a trailer up to 16 feet long. It has barrier-free restrooms, drinking water, picnic tables, fire rings and a campground host.

Aspen Campground, along Forest Road 105, is much larger with 136 sites, and can accommodate trailers up to 32 feet long. It also has barrier-free restrooms, drinking water, picnic tables, fire rings and a campground host.

Crook Campground is mainly a group camping area, with two loops and a total of 26 sites. Each loop has a large ramada with picnic tables. It also has barrier-free restrooms, drinking water, picnic tables, fire rings and a campground host.

Mogollon Campground, located along Forest Road 300, has 26 units accommodating trailers up to 32 feet. It also has barrier-free restrooms, drinking water, picnic tables, fire rings and a campground host.

Woods Canyon Lake is stocked weekly, from May through September, with catchable rainbow trout. A few, large brown trout remain in the lake from stockings many years ago. A 10-lb. brown trout was caught in 1999.

Woods Canyon Lake is a beautiful, canyon bound, deep lake of 55 surface acres, with an average depth of 25 feet and a maximum depth of 40 feet. It is at about 7,500 feet with good water quality.

Primarily a Trout fishing lake, Woods Canyon Lake's season lasts between May and October of each year. Electric Boat Motors are required.

Take Highway 260 northeast from Payson toward Heber. Then take Forest Road 300 west 3 miles and turn right at Woods Canyon Lake Road.
