After the marterdom of Joseph Smith, the Saints were led from Nauvoo to the site of modern day Salt Lake City. It was not too long that a temple was built in Salt Lake and that temple today is known world wide to represent the LDS people. The area surrounding the Salt Lake City Temple is known as the "Temple Square."
