Purple Scaly Stem
Elytraria imbricata, Acanthus Family ( Acanthaceae ), Purple Scaly Stem. Also called: Purple Scalystem.

Height: A spreading green herb, up to about 10 inches high and 16 inches spread.
Flowers: The 5/8 inch blue - purple flowers bloom at the ends of thick stems.
Blooming Time: April - September.
Leaves: The thick, green leaves reach about 1 inches long by 1/8 inch wide and are covered with pale hairs.
Found: One species found in Arizona. Near desert creeks.
Elevation: 3200 - 5000 Feet.
Habitat: Slopes, mesas, and disturbed rocky soil.
