Jerusalem Sage
Phlomis fruticosa, Lamiaceae Family: ( Lamiaceae ) , Jerusalem Sage. Also called: Shrubby Jerusalem Sage.

A bold grey Semi-deciduous, low-water, shrub for a warm, sunny border. A great Mediterranean climate plant - beautiful yellow whorls of fall flowers. Phlomis fruticosa, shrubby Jerusalem sage is known as a bee and butterfly attracting plant. The flower stalks and seed heads are ornamental when dry and provide winter interest and food for birds.

Said to love the sun, but in Phoenix, Arizona it does best with some shade. The only plants we have seen in this area are in partial shade.

Height: 3 - 4 feet tall, spread to 3 feet.
Flowers: Yellow flowers. Arranged in whorls, with several flowers on one vertical stalk, one on top of the other.
Blooming Time: Mid May - June.
Leaves: Slightly glaucus, 2-3 inch long, lance-shaped, fuzzy leaves that are heart-shaped at the base.
Found: Native of Turkey and Syria.
Elevation: 0 - 2,500 Feet.
Habitat: Desert soil, rock, does well in loose soil on slopes.
