Distant Phacelia
Phacelia distans, Waterleaf Family ( Hydrophyllaceae ), Distant Phacelia. Also called Wild Heliotrope, Common phacelia, Blue Phacelia.
Annual. Perennial. Thirty eight species of Phacelia in Arizona.
Height: Up To About 18 Inches Tall.
Flowers: Flowers violet-purple, whitish bell to trumpet-shaped with 5 rounded lobes to 1/2" wide. The flowerhead is finely haired, with terminal coils.
Blooming Time: Mid February - May.
Leaves: The variable leaves are once or twice pinnately divided, dark green, to 5" long. Stems reddish and hairy, sticky.
Found: Arizona and California.
Elevation: 0 - 4000 Feet.
Habitat: Phacelia's habitat is the desert environs, where it occupies open, sandy washes to rocky flats, bajadas, roadsides, and playas.
