White Nightshade
Solanum americanum, Caltrop Family ( Solanaceae ), White Nightshade: Also called: Solanum nodiflorum, American Black Nightshad.

Solanum americanum is a herbaceous annual plant, which can reach about 39 inches in height. It has poisonous, white 5-lobed flowers with a beak of yellow stamens. Its leaves are glabrous to fuzzy, oval, petioled. They can be smooth-edged to edged with large, rounded teeth.

Height: Up To About 2 - 3 feet. Spreading out to about 4 foot wide.
Flowers: White in color. Sometimes purplish white. The flowers have 5 lobes, 5 stamens, and are 1 inch in diameter. The flowers have 5 fused petals, ¾ inch across, with bright yellow stamens. Flowers grow on stalks in clusters or singly at the end of stems or branches.
Blooming Time: April to October.
Leaves: The entire green leaves are ovate to somewhat triangular, irregularly toothed, with wavy margins.. Poisonous. The leaves are 1 to 4 inches long by 2-3 inch wide. There are small hairs on the leaves especially on the margins.
Fruit: The fruits are round, black fruit.berries, 3/8 inch in diameter.
Shape: Prostrate, branched, radiating to 5 feet from top of taproot, hairy, becoming nearly glabrous.
Elevation: 0 - 4,500 Feet.
Habitat: On roadsides, yards. It also can be found in perennial fields and on cultivated land.
