Nice or in Italian, Nizza or Nizza Marittima, is a city in southern France located on the Mediterranean coast, between Marseille, France, and Genoa, Italy. Nice is a major tourist resort on the French Riviera (Côte d'Azur). It is the old capital city of the County of Nice (Comté de Nice). Nice has a Mediterranean climate and in the summer when we were there it was hot and dry. Not at all unfamilier to us, since we are from Arizona. While, it has many tourist aminities, we did not find Nice to be that great of a tourist place and we did not stay. In general it was simply too crowded to be interesting. We prefer the less crowded beaches of Mexico. Lyon also spelled Lyons, is a city in east-central France in the region of the Rhône-Alpes. Lyon is a major center of business, situated between Paris and Marseille, and has a reputation as the French capital of gastronomy . The residents of the city are called Lyonnais. Lyon forms the second-largest metropolitan area in France after that of Paris Lyon is the capital of the Rhône département, and also the capital of the Rhône-Alpes région. The city is known for its many historical and architectural landmarks and it was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Lyon was historically known as the silk capital of the world. The city is known as the culinary capital of France. It also hosts numerous international headquarters such as Interpol. The Rhône and Saône rivers that converge to the south of Lyon forming a peninsula. We were there in August of 1999.
