Blue Muhly Grass
Muhlenbergia rigens, Grass Family ( Poaceae ), Blue Muhly Grass. Also called Muhly Grass, Big Muhly Grass, Lindheimer's Muhlygrass, Blue Muhlygrass.

Blue Muhly Grass has bluish gray foliage that grows in a clump 2 - 4 feet wide and 1 - 2 feet tall. The purplish flowering spikes stand above the foliage and they can be up to 5 feet tall.

They appear in early fall, starting out purplish, then becoming gray later in the summer and throughout most of the winter.

It tolerates alkaline soil; extremely drought tolerant. Moderate to little water, cannot tolerate poorly-drained soils. Once established, it needs no care.

Height: Height normally about 28 - 36 inches tall. Will also spread to about 48 inches.
Flowers: Purple - gray flower panicles.
Blooming Time: Mid August - September.
Leaves: Simple, gray - green; medium blade width.
Elevation: 0 -3,500 Feet.
Habitat: Full Sun. A Xeriscape Landscape plant. Native of the dry prairies and rocky slopes in Texas and northern Mexico.
