Yellow Menodora Menodora scabra, Olive Family ( Oleaceae ), Yellow Menodora: Also Called; Rough Menodora, Rough Desert Olive, Twinberry, Menodora scabra var. glabrescens, Menodora scabra var. laevis, Menodora scabra var. longituba, Menodora scabra var. ramosissima, Menodora scoparia. Menodora scabra is described as a deciduous, perennial dicot; subshrub, shrub, or forb that is about 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 feet tall. Yellow Menodora has Green foliage and conspicuous Yellow flowers, with conspicuous Yellow fruits or seeds. The yellow flowers have 5 - 6 petal lobes. Its flowers are from 3/4 inch to 1 inch in width. The simple leaves are alternate, smooth edged, and oblanceolate-- wider nearer to the tip that the base. Height: Up to about about 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 feet tall. And up to 3 feet wide. Flowers: Bright yellow, up to about 3/4" - 1 inches in width. Fruit: Yellow to Pink, paired globose capsule. Two to four seeds in each fruit. Blooming Time: June through December in Yarnell, Arizona. Leaves: The green simple leaves are alternate, smooth edged, and oblanceolate-- wider nearer to the tip that the base.. Found: Sonoran and Mojave deserts reaching into the western fringes of the Chihuahuan Desert in southeastern Arizona and southwestern New Mexico. States of Arizona., California., Nevada., New Mexico., Utah. In Mexico: Baja California, Baja California Sur, Sinaloa, and Sonora. Elevation: 1,500 to 7,000 feet. Habitat: Sandy, alkaline, desert soils, , bajadas, desert grasslands, dry woodlands, pinion pine - scrub oak, disturbed land areas, and roadsides.
