Mabrya acerifolia, Figwort Family Is Often Called The Snapdragon Family ( Scrophulariaceae ) , Mabrya. Also called: Mapleleaf False Snapdragon, Maple - Leaf Snapdragon, Brittlestem, Maurandya acerifolia, Asarina acerifolia.

Mabrya acerifolia is a perennial prostrate, mat-forming dicot, vine, to 10 inches (25.4 cm) long, with brittle stems. It is the only species in the genus Mabrya.

Its stems often hang down from moist, rock ledges. Its coarsely toothed, heart-shaped to kidney-shaped leaves are up to 1 inch wide, wider than long, dark green, downy, and sticky.

Brittlestems flowers are white to greenish white, up to 1 inch long, 5-lobed and tubular. Its seeds are about 1-1.5 mm long, gray too blackish, with low cork like longitudinal ridges.

Height: Normally About 6" - 8" Tall. Can grow to 10 inches. Spreads 18- 30 inches.
Flowers: White to greenish white, up to 1 inch long, 5-lobed and tubular.
Blooming Time: March - May. Sometimes in great numbers after rains.
Leaves: Alternate, pubescent leaves, 0.5 to 2 inches long, pinnately cleft into very narrow segments. The green, glandular-hairy, 5 to 9-lobed leaves intergrade with the bracts.
Found: Found in the Lower Sonoran Desert Zone of south-central Arizona: Maricopa and Pinal counties, including Superstition Mts. (Pinal County), Pinal Mts. (Maricopa Co.), above Canyon Lake (Maricopa Co.), near Horse Mesa Dam (Maricopa Co.).
Elevation: 1,800 – 3,350 Feet.
Habitat: Rock overhangs, on shaded cliffs and rock ledges. Prefers north to east facing canyon walls in rhyolite rock crevices.
