London is located on both banks of the River Thames, in the south-east of England. It has an area of approximately 720 square miles, it is together with New York and Tokyo, one of the three largest cities in the world. The major attractions we visited were: Big Ben which is the clock tower of the Houses of Parliament. Buckingham Palace which has been the offical London home of the sovereign since it was built by the first Duke of Buckingham between 1701 and 1705. The British Museum which houses some of the world's finest collections on culture and civilisation. St Paul's cathedral which has stood above the London skyline for almost 300 years, an emblem of London's pride and courage. The Tower Bridge which is the only one of the London bridges that can allow the passage of ships underneath it. The Tower of london which was a prison, a place of execution and even a jewel house. Trafalgar Square which was laid out in the 1820's in memory of the british naval hero, Admiral Nelson. And Westminster Abbey, situated by Parliament Square in the centre of London is regarded as the House of Kings. We were there in August of 1999. London is hot and humid then.
