Kinnikinick Lake: Elevation about 7,046 feet. Kinnikinick Lake is a lake of about 126 acres and an average depth of 22 feet. A Google Earth Map search marks center of the Kinnikinick Lake Dam at about 34o 53' 42.56" N 111o 17' 50.17" W. Kinnikinick Lake is an excellent place to fish. It is stocked with rainbow, brown, and brook trout, bass and channel catfish and boasts enough wind to attract a fairly large following of wind surfers. Boat motor size limited to single 10 horsepower motor. The name Kinnikinick has some interesting origins. It refers to a plant called Bearberry (Arctostaphylos uva-ursi) which was used by the Native Americans and Pioneers especially in the Ohio valley in a mixture of dried leaves and bark and sometimes tobacco which was smoked. The The Kinnikinnick plant has dark green foliage and conspicuous purple flowers, with conspicuous red fruits or seeds. Kinnikinick Campground has 13 single unit campsites with tables, fire rings, and cooking grills, Vault-type toilets. There is a boat ramp at the lake. How to get there: From Flagstaff: Turn south onto Lake Mary (Forest Highway 3) and turn east on FR 125. FR 125 (becomes dirt in 0.2 miles). Drive 4 miles to FR 82.
