| Since Akhenaten had only daughters, he married one of them to the young little prince, Tut-ankh-Aten, whom he elected to be his successor. Since the government then gave up the exclusive cult of the Sun-god Aten and changed back to the old gods after Akhenaten's death, the young new Pharaoh changed his name to Tut-ankhamen (the living image of Amen or Amon). It was in this name that the decree reinstating Amon back into its rights and splendor was issued by Tutankhamon. This infuriated the government and priests. Upon Tuts' death, his successors obliberated his name and that of Akhenaten from all monuments and records. Tut would have never had the posibility of being the most famous of the Pharaoh's had it not been that his name and tomb had become forgotten. The tomb was later discovered by Carter in 1922 in the Valley Of The Kings and its great wealth was brought into the light of day. All of this wealth is now on display on an entire second floor of the Egyptian Musium in Cairo. Enjoy now some of the treasures of King Tut. |
