Saint George, Utah

After the martyrdom of Joseph Smith, the Saints were led from Nauvoo to the site of modern day Salt Lake City. It was not too long afterwards that Brigham Young directed the Saints to expand their growth into other areas. One of those areas was modern day, Saint George, Utah. The Saints were then directed to build a temple in Saint George.

Jacob Hamblin was sent forward into the southern parts of Utah and northern parts of Arizona to make contact with the Native American people in the area in order to create peaceful conditions for the settlement of those areas. He was often seen wearing a red cloth around his neck, a symbol of peace!
