The largest pyramid is Khufu (Cheops in Greek) or The Great Pyramid. It measures 755 feet square at its base and its present height is 449 feet. Over the years it has lost 33 feet of its original height. Its volume is about 88 million cubic feet. Its original entrance was on the north side and its corridors were aligned with the circumpolar stars to insure the Pharaohs immortality. Its present entrance, lower than the original, is linked to a passageway to the "real" access corridor. In our next few photos, we will show you a little of what it was like to go from the Queens Room up to the Kings Chamber, and the Pharaohs Sarcophagus. If you wish to go inside the Great Pyramid, there is an extra ticket that will cost you 100 LE. You will find the ticket office for the entrance to the Great Pyramid in front of the north-eastern side of the Pyramid. Sometimes is quite difficult to get this ticket, as the amount is limited to only 300 tickets daily, and they are divided among the morning and afternoon. They sell 150 at 08:00 AM, and then, at exactly 1:00 PM, the other 150. During the high tour season, be there early or you will not get a ticket. Hint: once you have your ticket you have a 3-4 hour window in which to go inside the pyramid. Don't go in right away, as most of the tour groups will be trying to squeeze in there as they are on a limited schedule. It's much better to wait an hour or two and the interior will be much less crowded.

The Cairo International Airport (IATA: CAI, ICAO: HECA) is the busiest airport in Egypt and is located to the north-east of the city around 15 km from the business area of the city. Cairo International is the second busiest airport in Africa with over 65 airlines using the Cairo airport (including charter airlines) and 9 cargo airlines. With the assimilation of EgyptAir into Star Alliance in July 2008 the airport has the potential to be a major hub with its positioning between Africa, the Middle East and Europe. In 2008, the airport served 14,360,175 passengers and it is one of the top 100 airports in the world. The airport handles both domestic and international flights, and is open 24 hours a day. We suggest flying into Cairo and staying in one of their many fine hotels when touring the Egyptian Musium in Cairo and the ruins in the surrounding areas. We have links on this page that will connect you with flights into Cairo and several of the best hotels in Cairo. After getting a flight and a hotel we suggest asking your hotel concierge to arrange either a car or a tour of Cairo or the Cairo area. If you call their Concierge Services ahead of your arrival, all of this can be pre-arranged for you. We do this all the time, when traveling in Egypt. It is safe and it works!!! We have never experienced a problem, doing it this way! Therefore, we have placed links to Priceline.com on this page so you can arrange your flights into and out of Cairo; as well as your hotel, when visiting this area.
