Senecio salignus, Aster or Sunflower Family also known as the Composite Family: ( Compositae ), Also known as Barkley's Ragwort.

Annual. Twenty four species of Senecio in Arizona.

The uniqueness of the Aster or Sunflower family is that what first seems to be a single large flower is actually a composite of many smaller flowers.

Height: Up To About 4 Feet Tall.
Flowers: Yellow rays, yellow - orange disks, up to 1 1/4 inch wide.
Blooming Time: March - May.
Leaves: Leaves pinnately, lobed, toothed, dark green, to 3" long. Side lobes are shorter, with the leaf up to 8 inches long. upper leaves smaller and clasping them.
Found: Arizona.
Elevation: 0 - 4000 Feet.
Habitat: Senecio's habitat is the desert environs, where it occupies open, sandy washes bajadas, and roadsides. Up to and including oak woodland areas.
Miscellaneous: Flowering Photos Taken April 27, 2003. Near Lake Pleasant.
