Edfu And The Falcon - God Horus

Edfu And The Falcon - God Horus
Edfu (the Greek city of Apollinopolis Magna) is a major religious and commercial center which stands at the nucleus of the road network, the end of the deserts, and the gold mine routes. The pile of rubble to the west of the Temple Of Horus is probably the original site of the village of Djeba. From artifacts discovered at the site the nerve center of the town was undisputedly the Temple Of Horus, the falcon god. It seems strange that the Temple Of Edfu stands in the center of the village itself. The Temple Of Horus is inhabitated by the falcon headed god Horus. The Temple Of Horus is accessed through the back of the temple and there has been a succession of structures built upon this site since antiquity. The original structure for Horus was a wicker hut! The stone temple was begun by Ptolemy III Euergetes in 237 BC and it was not completed until 57 BC.
