Chocolate Flower
Berlandiera lyrata, Sunflower Family: ( Asteraceae ) , Chocolate Flower. Also called: Chocolate Daisy, Greeneyes, Lyre - Leaf Greeneyes, and Brooch Flower.

Chocolate Flower is a small, perennial, 5 - 20 inches tall and up to 2 feet spread with gray - green leaves. Chocolate Flower has a delicious chocolate fragrance, especially in the morning. It is very hardy and drought tolerant. It attracts butterflies and beneficial insects and the seed heads are attractive in dried arrangements.

The yellow and maroon daisy - like flowers bloom in the late summer and they close in the afternoon.

They need moderate water in the summer. A small amount of water in the winter. Try not to overwater.

Height: 5 - 20 inches tall, spread to 2 feet.
Flowers: yellow and maroon daisy - like flowers.
Blooming Time: Late March - November. Best, June - October.
Leaves: Leaves are deeply lobed, a fuzzy pale green about 5 ½ inches long..
Found: Found throughout Southwestern USA, Texas, Northwestern Mexico.
Elevation: 0 - 7,000 Feet.
Habitat: Desert soil, rock, does well in loose soil on slopes .
