The Plaza de Toros in Mexico City is the largest bullring in the world. It will hold 45,000 spectators.

The idea of its construction was conceived by the visionary industralist Neguib Simón. The structure was designed to be very comfortable and truely monumental. This great structure was built by the engineer C. Roland. It was blessed by the Archbishop of Mexico, Dr Luis Maria Martinez. The opening day was on February 5th of 1946 and the structure was completely filled with spectators.

Two famous matadors; Manuel Rodriguez "and Luis Procuna performed. They were from the capital districts of Mixcoac and San Juan de Letrán. They fought and killed bulls from the ranch of Don Antonio Llaguno.

The main season for bullfighting is the dry season, around November through March at Plaza México (Calle Agusto Rodín 241, at Holbein, Col. Ciudad de los Deportes, PHONE: 5563-3959), the world's largest bullring (it seats 40,000). Tickets, cost about $2-$25, can be purchased at hotel travel desks or at the bullring's ticket booths weekends 9:30-2 and 3:30-7. The ring is next to the Ciudad de los Deportes sports complex, and the show goes on at 4 Sunday.

Their web page where you can discover when the events will be and also purchase your tickets is: http://www.lamexico.com/

The entertainment factor of bullfighting is declining in Mexico for several reasons. It is said that today the arena is about 1/5 unfilled.

We personally have never attended a bullfight. Our photos of the bulls and bull fighters were purchased from a street vender.
