The official position of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is that the events narrated in the Book of Mormon occurred somewhere in the Americas, but that the specific location has not yet been revealed. In the year 1841, 11 years after the Book of Mormon was published: Harper and Brothers published a book written by John Lloyd Stephens about his travels in Central America, Chiapas, and the Yucatan. Then in 1841, Joseph Smith, President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and editor of the The Times and Seasons, published the following statement: “It would not be a bad plan to compare Mr. Stephens' ruined cities with those in the Book of Mormon.” ( The Times and Seasons 3:927 ) We have personally visited each of the following cities and lands with the purpose of discovering possible links to the Book Of Mormon in the lands that we have visited. We have also investigated the works of several archaeologists, both LDS and Non LDS, as to their viewpoints concerning these lands and cities. The ruined cities and lands on the following pages are thought by many experts to be possible cities and lands that are mentioned in the Book of Mormon.
