Apache Plume
Fallugia paradoxa, Rose Family ( Rosaceae ), Apache Plume.

Apache Plume is a deciduous to evergreen dicot, perennial shrub, (governed by drought). It will flower profusely with white, five-petaled flowers, for many summer months if it receives abundant moisture.

It has silky plumed seed heads which are formed and cover the tips of the branches for many months. They stand out more than the white flowers.

Height: About 3' - 4' Tall. Can reach 5 - 7 feet in good conditions.
Bark: The bark is white to dark gray. Twigs white, pubescent.
Flowers: The white flowers are solitary on long peduncles or corymbose, 0.8-1 inch long; calyx cupulate with ovate lobes; petals 5, white, slender, hairy.
Blooming Time: May and August - September.
Fruit: The Seeds are feathery and reddish in color; seeds hairy and solitary.
Leaves: Leaves are alternate, simple, cuneate-obovate or spatulate with 3 - 7 deep lobes,0.25 - 0.5 inch long, tomentose beneath, attenuate at base, obtuse at apex, entire, revolute.
Elevation: 3,500 - 8000 Feet.
Habitat: Dry and rocky slopes, high desert mountains. California, Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Nevada, also Mexico.
