Yad Kennedy is located seven miles from downtown Jerusalem, Israel on a hill to the south of Saint John in the Wilderness. It is a memorial to John F. Kennedy, President of the United States, who was assassinated in 1963. Yad Kennedy was financed by contributions from Jewish communities in the USA. It can be reached by taking the road which runs southeast from Hadassah and turning right into a road to the village of Ora. The monument is 2 miles beyond the village. The memorial, 60 feet high, is shaped like a fallen tree trunk, symbolizing a persons' life cut short. Inside is a bust of John F. Kennedy, with an eternal flame burning in the center. It has 51 columns, each bearing the emblem of a state. The monument and adjoining picnic grounds are part of the John F. Kennedy Peace Forest.
