When we were ill with altitude sickness and went back down to the lower altitude of Lima; we went to the Anglo American Clinic (Clínica Anglo Americana) at: Alfredo Salazar, 3rd Block, San Isidro. Lima, Peru. Tel: 221-3656. Here we received excellent care by english speaking doctors and nurses. We were examined within 10 minutes of entering the clinic. The Peru doctor also prescribed a medication for another problem the Eve had been experiencing for several years with no success from her American doctors. That problem went away within hours and has not returned, but she must continue using the medication. Her doctor in the USA had never heard of the drug. Yet, his pharmacy had it in stock and Eve is now continuing its use under his care. We spent over 7 hours in the Anglo American Clinic, had two IV's, three medications, and the doctor himself checked on Eve about every 20 minutes. He even spent some time going over my health condition at no charge to me. The total cost was $266 US. We could learn something in the USA from this! We have been asked about what drug to use for altitude sickness. The one we used was Acetazolamide, which is the generic name of (Diamox). It worked very well! Regarding prescription drugs in Peru. There seems to be a pharmacy on just about every corner in the major cities. No Prescription Needed. The cost is about 10% of the cost in the USA for most drugs. OK! Now the legal disclaimer!
